Sony FX5
Everything we know about the FX5, widely reported as the FX5 and occasionally as the mini VENICE. One reconciled view, updated as the picture sharpens.
The next Sony FX cinema body, long rumored as the 'FX3 II' and now surfacing as the FX5: a compact 'mini VENICE' a step above the FX3 rather than a like-for-like successor. The reported spec pairs a 16.6MP stacked sensor with the BIONZ XR2 and built-in AI autofocus, and adds triple-base ISO and 5K open gate, both Sony firsts. Read the specs with care. Almost all of them trace to a single outlet, SonyAlphaRumors, which names July 22 as the announcement date; the outlets repeating them credit SAR rather than confirming it. Only the April 2026 China registration (NP-SA100 battery, Wi-Fi 6) is independent of that reporting, and a filing establishes a camera's existence, not its specs.
Rumored features
Every claim is tied to the sources behind it. Likelihood reflects how many independent, trusted sources agree, graded T1 verified filing, T2 established track record, T3 single source.
Nearly every FX5 spec below traces back to a single outlet, SonyAlphaRumors. The other outlets reporting these specs credit SonyAlphaRumors rather than confirming them independently, so we score them as single-source. If SonyAlphaRumors is right, this page is right.

Where to buy
Retailer links for your region appear here at launch.
It hasn't launched, so there is no used market for it yet. The live trade-off is the outgoing body: buying one new today means wearing the depreciation when the successor lands, so a used or rented bridge body is often the cheaper way to wait it out.
When live, retailer links will be affiliate links. We may earn a commission on purchases, at no cost to you. It never influences a rating.
How the story developed
Sources we monitor
The outlets we watch, graded by tier. Track records appear here once rumors resolve; none have yet, so no hit rates are shown.
Specs remain unconfirmed by Sony. Every claim is labeled rumored and scored by source tier and corroboration. When Sony announces, we resolve each claim and update each source’s public record.
