Our public record of hits and misses. When a rumor resolves, we mark it true or false in place and rescore the sources that made the call. A miss is never quietly deleted; keeping the full record, wins and losses, is what makes “sources with a track record” a measurable rule.
Almost all of it is what we scored here before the outcome was known. A spec reported after a camera ships is confirmed fact rather than a call, so it never earns anyone a mark. That is why the record starts small, and why it grows every time a tracked rumor resolves. The exceptions are marked seeded below and are counted out of the stricter figure.

Right. Sony's European RRP is €5,400 body / €6,000 with the XLR handle; the €5,399 / €5,999 rumor was within about a euro, a hit.

FX54K 240p via a future firmware update
Confirmed by Sony. The FX5 page states 4K 240 fps recording will require a future firmware update, planned to be available August 2027 or later (alongside 5K 3:2 X-OCN at 120 fps).

FX516 stops
Wrong. Sony publishes LATITUDE as 15+ stops (S-Log3) on its own full specification page, for both the ILME-FX5B and the ILME-FX5. It does not state 16. Strictly, 16 would satisfy “15 or more”, so this is a judgment rather than an arithmetic contradiction, and it is recorded as one: the claim asserted a precise figure that Sony has not published, and the only number Sony has published is a different one. Some launch coverage (PetaPixel, Newsshooter) attributed an up-to-16-stops figure to Sony via Dual Gain Shooting, but Sony's own product pages describe Dual Gain only qualitatively and publish no 16 figure. If an independent lab measurement later establishes 16 stops, this resolution should be revisited in place.

FX5False color exposure tool
Right, and now confirmed by Sony directly. Sony's own product page lists the monitoring tools as “Waveform Monitor, Histogram, False Color, and Focus Map”. This was first resolved on a dedicated button marked FALSE COLOR visible on the body in hands-on footage, which was sound but weaker provenance; the note is upgraded here to cite Sony's own wording instead.

FX5Positioned between the FX3 and FX6
Right. Sony prices the FX5 at US$4,899.99 body only, which sits between the FX3 at $4,298 and the FX6 at $6,998 in our own comparison. Capability sits between them too: a 16.6MP fully stacked sensor and internal X-OCN put it above the FX3, while it lacks the FX6’s built-in electronic ND. Scored on the positioning alone. The “mini VENICE” nickname was never Sony’s, though the camera does record X-OCN, the codec VENICE uses.

FX5Sony FX5 has no internal ND filters, no photo mode, and no SSD output
Right on all three. Sony's full specification and its own feature list for the FX5 name none of them. Internal ND is the decisive one: Sony headlines electronic variable ND on the FX6 and the FX9, so its absence from a thirty item feature list for a new Cinema Line body is a statement rather than an omission. On stills, the specification quotes shutter speed for movies only, lists no still image file format, and Sony describes the interface as movie-first menus and controls. On external recording, the connection list covers monitoring, power and timecode, and the USB PC interface is mass storage, with no SSD recording anywhere. Resolved on the absence of all three from both documents, which is weaker evidence than a positive statement and is recorded as such.

FX5Global shutter
Wrong. Sony's full published specification names the sensor as a 35mm full-frame Exmor RS CMOS and lists no global shutter anywhere, in a document that itemizes the shutter, the sensor and the stabilization system. A global shutter is a headline feature a maker states plainly when it is present. SonyAlphaRumors raised this in June and walked it back within a week when its own sources disagreed, which is why we never scored it above unverified.

FX5NP-SA100 battery, 30W USB-C, Wi-Fi 6
Right on the two things it named, and Sony does not publish the third. The battery is the NP-SA100 exactly as claimed, and wireless is IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax, where ax is Wi-Fi 6, with 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz bands. The 30W USB-C figure came from the April 2026 China registration and Sony's consumer specification does not restate it: it confirms USB Power Delivery over USB Type-C without a wattage for the camera, and quotes 27W and 45W only for the supplied charger. Counted as a hit, with that caveat on the record.

Confirmed exactly by Sony's published specification for the ILME-FX5B. Two slots, each taking either card type: 'SLOT A: Multi slot for SDXC (UHS-I/II compliant) memory card / CFexpress 2 Type A card, SLOT B: Multi slot for SDXC (UHS-I/II compliant) memory card / CFexpress 2 Type A card'.

FX5About 734g with battery and card
Right, and close rather than exact. Sony's specification for the ILME-FX5B gives approximately 734g with battery and memory card, the weight the camera actually has in use, against a rumored 'about 750g'. That is 16g out, a little over 2 percent. Body only is approximately 643g, and the rumor did not say which measure it meant. Counted as a hit on the shooting weight, which is the figure a buyer holds.

Confirmed by Sony on July 22, 2026. Sony's own specification for the ILME-FX5 lists a 35mm full-frame (35.9 x 24.0mm) Exmor RS CMOS sensor with approximately 16.6 effective megapixels, and the launch release describes it as fully stacked.
