Sony FX5 vs FX3
Sony’s FX5 and FX3 side by side, on the specs that decide it, with our buy-or-wait call for each. Every rumored value is flagged and tied to its source.
Announced July 22, 2026 and not shipping until mid-August, so there is nothing to buy yet. Sony has settled the specs, and they are strong: triple base ISO, 5K open gate and internal 16-bit X-OCN RAW. It also came in cheaper than the rumors said. What is still unknown is how it holds up in real footage, so wait for shipping units rather than order on a spec sheet.
Refreshed as the FX3a in 2025, with no direct successor imminent; the new FX5 sits a tier above it. A dependable buy if you want the compact full-frame body now.
